Yes they are usually bigger in size. We have a few people on here who keep them and would be better informed to tell you about them. As far as toys go if it has any metal on the toy make sure it's stainless steel as other metals can rust which can kill a budgie. They love toys made of balsa wood as they can shred it. Natural Bird Company have great and safe bird toys.

budgerigarsforum.proboards.com/thread/2204/budgie-safe-materials-toys-etcBells, mirrors, swings, rings, cat balls, anything that makes a noise. Have a look on some budgie toy websites, check out your local pet store and this will give you some idea on what is typical. A lot of us make our own - much more fun, you can do what you like, and they can be pulled apart and remade if needed. Just make sure there are no sharp bits, rust, long threads or chord to get hung up in. But read through the stickie I have given the link, this should help.

Jo likes buttons on a little container in that he throws out, large cardboard centres from my wool with balsa wood tied to it. Ipads, laptops, a see saw which he has dried grass on that flies everywhere, egg boxes the pyramid bit tied together, stuffed with paper. I thread almonds onto paper string and hang it from the bars. I threaded beads onto his swing uprights. He loves the rope swings and Pets at Home do a hanging ball with rings on the top made of some kind of leaves that he shreds.
Also cuttlefish hanging in cubes is good, and those roly poly toys for the bottom of cage, and the penguin that pets at home sell on wheels.
Jo also likes anything that he is not supposed to especially the wicker furniture, he is still taken with nestling in a glass jug and chatters away to himself. Good luck.

Orla absolutely loves her home made toy! It's 3 paper cases on a string, each with shredded paper inside.

My budgies love to play with raffia - just the plain stuff that you can buy in garden centres. I don't know if it is because they are programmed to be interested in grass but they spend hours nibbling it and shredding it. I have created lots of bunches for them to play with the ends, but it is important to make sure that there are no loops for them to get caught up in.
