starlingqueen How long do you recommend that they stay outside for? I like to take Munchy outside with me but after a few days out in the good weather he starts getting a bit frisky with the ends of perches and things so I want to try to minimise that but also make sure he's getting everything he needs. Which reminds me, someone remind me to call in at the market to purchase a cuttle bone.

I'm not sure about bird but humans only need 10 to 15 minutes, without and sun screen, a day to produce the amount of vitamins they need. Just found this, not had time t read it yet but from a quick scan it looks good. www.hagen.com/hari/docu/shedding_light.html

Very cute budgies and shame orange isn't possible as very attractive I think.
Do they come out at all?
I am taking B out tomorrow. Thing is, in my jungle there is either total shade or none. Might give him a few mins in the sun. And myself, longer. I havent ventured into mine for so long, dreading the state of it. I should add, it's not attached and has a high fence, so can't see in or go in and out directly from my flat. Weirdly built.

I take mine out every day when I can/when there is sun (there has been very little for the last week or so), but the easy solution for a shady area is to make them one! If, where I can put them to be easily kept an eye, on is in an area of no shade then simply cut off a bit of tree, bush, fern even. Almost anything will do and drape this over the cage. Taa daa ..... instant shade! If the sun isn't overhead but coming in from the sides, peg the foliage onto the sides of the cage.

Some commercial breeders put different colors on their budgies heads to make them look beautiful, before selling them to pet shop. This is one those cases. I have seen many in person.

Interesting, BB, about some breeders colouring up their buds like that. As if they're not beautiful enough already ...

I can't believe that people would do this. Do they think no one will be any the wiser??? I am still shaking my head over this.

They are colony bred and in very poor health, but very cheap. All sorts of colors, but mainly bright ones like red, purple, orange and so on. The reality is that there are many people who don't know if this is the part of original body color or not. One day the kid says; I want a bird and next thing dad takes him to pet shop and buy what color the kid likes.
