My new bird in the cage just sits there but when he's out he runs about happy. But loves. Chewing and plucking my hair out. Or chewing my tshirt or any material he can get his beak on . He was rolling around in a scarf pulling and biting.
is ths normal? And safe?
any ideas ?diy. For his cage.
I was thinking. A shredded or knotted tshirt rope maybe ..
I saw the fleece swing he might like that

Sounds like normal behaviour for a hen.

Sounds like normal behaviour for any young budgie. Check out the rest of the threads. There are plenty of ideas for making toys in this section if you go and look.

You don't want them actually eating fabric fibres. It's not good for them. They can't digest them and they form a lump in their intestines. Get something shreddable like wood bark from a safe tree, palm leaf braid or yucca pieces. Most parrot places sell them and they're cheap.
Or try some shreddable food like fresh carrot rounds or celery pieces.

Erm, not sure OP - I know that Yucca is grown in the Amazon (as well as other places) as a food source and it looks like a woody fibrous root of sorts. But our British Yucca fits your Wiki description - perhaps they are of a similar derivative of plant but am afraid you would have to ask a botanist ....or Stace

stace. I had to shout as it's a long way to Australia. It can be quite confusing though. Thank you for the heads up though, Sam.

Many thanks Stace, I hope I didn't wake you up down under. There you go plecostrum, a better option for your bud it would seem.
