Hi everyone,
I haven't been on here for so long but could do with some virtual hugs from people who understand.
We rehomed 2 budgies (Bert and Ernie) last year to go along with our 2 existing budgies (Millie and Ollie) and finally felt like our little budgie family was complete. Going from 2 to 4 made our living room very noisy but in a good way!!
Bert and Ernie were absolute best buds who did practically everything together even after integrating with the others.. although Bert the flirt would also sometimes branch out and share the love with Ollie!!
He always seemed so happy chirpy and full of life so it was such a massive shock to find him dead on the floor of the cage yesterday. There were no marks or anything on him and he'd been flying around chirping as normal the night before.
This is the first time I've experienced the death of a pet since I was a child and I feel absolutely devastated.. I've always thought our budgies seemed pretty healthy so it was not at all on my radar for something like this to happen yet.. Especially to bert or Ernie who seemed to be the loudest speediest of the bunch.
I guess he had a heart attack or seizure or something and he looked very peaceful but it's hard to grasp how he can be there one minute and gone a few hours later. The cage feels and looks so different and much quieter now even though there are still 3 remaining and I am worried about Ernie losing his best friend. He has been eating and chirping but he must be feeling lost since they were always together.
I know there's nothing anyone can do but I have been crying all weekend and I just wanted to reach out to people who understand as I know most people will think 'so what, it's just a budgie!'
Just wish there was something I could've done
