Hi all newbie here!
well my cage arrived today - I have the Hagen vision l02 . I have only built it single height at the minute but can do full height if needed.
Well basically asking for tips as to what to put in it to create the perfect home! I haven't put the Hagen perches in and if you could point me in the direction of the best place to get budgie bits from it would be much appreciated!
I dont have a budgie yet as I wanted to make sure I have everything ready for my new friend(s?) first! Any recommendations?
Thankyou in advance
xx

The Natural Bird Co does wonderful natural wood perches and toys. Karen who runs it is so helpful and her products are excellent quality and fun. Karen offers a quick service as do Northern Parrots, the natural wood perches are good and the cotton covered bendy perches, my Jo loves these. As for food some of us have had problems with the new Trill, I personally buy Haiths Bravo seed and their tonic seed which she has twice a week. Amazon are always a sure bet. Jo love the little penguin on wheels, mirrors, balsa wood bits to chew on, swings and those wobbly toys which are round at the bottom and mirror on top and the wobble about on the floor. Say goodbye to your money Others will be around to tell you more in time. Hope this helps

Hi! I am new too. I have a Hagen cage, but it's the M01. I am going to move to a bigger cage soon. You will get lots of helpful hints here! You already knew to replace the plastic perches, so that's good. (I didn't know that at first, but now I have removed one plastic perch and added 2 additional, more appropriate wood perches). It was also suggested to me to lay some newspaper on top of the grill bottom of the Hagen Vision cages to help their feet.
Good luck and be sure to put up a picture soon!

Thanks both!have seen a couple of bits on Amazon and now just having a look at natural bird - all looks fab sooo many to choose from . Suppose I just need a selection to start then can always add to it!
Ive seen on some American forums that they put slinkys hanging from the roof like a tunnel? Does anyone on here do that? Is it a good idea?
also the vision cage - the top metal bit in the roof - should the vertical bars be on the outside or the inside? Anyone know as it didn't say!
I have aves also read about feeding pellets as well as seed? Should we do that? Because looking at the ingredients of the pellets it's basically crushed seed so seems pointless especially if most birds won't eat it anyway!
Theres so so much to look at and think about! I've got two children and preparing for them was easier than this!!
Thanks again

By slinky, I am guessing you are meaning the cotton perches that are in a spiral??? If so, I use mine both ways, either across the cage or hanging from the roof. Cut off any tassels to as short as possible as budgies can get their claws caught, or worse their necks. Not a nice thing to find your bird dead, hung up on a toy. Lots of chewable stuff is necessary; get enough toys to be able to change them over each week, at least. While budgies are very good at amusing themselves, they still can become destructive if bored. Changing their toys around each week keeps them looking for new things to do. Bells, bells and lots of bells, making sure these are stainless steel, of course. Anything else rusts, and rust is extremely toxic to budgies. The bells will set you back a bit, money-wise, but looked after you will not have to replace them ....... ever.
Pellets are very much pushed by US vets, why we have never managed to fathom. Not many people use pellets on this forum, there are a couple, mostly to keep their bird(s) on a very low fat diet. Instead, be prepared to introduce the budgie to veggies as soon as you can.

I am curious what American forums you've found. I didn't find that many forums, and the ones I found were mostly populated by Brits and Australian folks. Maybe I was searching with the "budgie" term instead of parakeets and that did it. I like this forum because there are abundant pictures and people really seem to focus on their birds' personalities as individuals. It's very sweet. <3 But what "American forum" did you find?

No I mean slinky slinky - as in tumbling down the stairs! It seemed a bit strange to me but many of the owners seemed to have them - I think it was budgie talk forum and I just assumed it was American from the way they talked !

I have the hagen L02 as well. I had to check my roof. The bars go on the inside with all the white plastic on the outside. I don't think the walls would attach with it upside down anyway. I've got several of the Naturalbirdco perches include a full width one and a flat one with a kebob in the centre for them to have food or balsa wood from. Oh actually I think Karen added their photo on that page of her website. I'll find the link in a bit.
Are you planning on one or two budgies? I've had Merry and pippin for nearly 9 months now. I'm still learning.

As in metal, spring kind of thing? This I have not seen, and personally I wouldn't want to!! Not only because of the metal - lots of different metal is toxic to budgies - but also if the birds are hopping on and off then the thing is going to be bouncing up and down, stretching and contracting; it would be too easy to get feet, legs, wings, almost anything caught up in the coils. The thought of that quite horrifies me.

Oh Jennyb they are lovely!!
I was thinking of getting one to start then a second later on as I have read that it is easier to tame them one by one . But then I'm worried that he may be lonely on his own when I'm out sometimes . Hmmm what do you think is best?
And a slinky yes ! But a plastic one! Hung like a tunnel will find a link one sec !

Sorry, but I have to say that I disagree with using the, what she calls 'pedicure perch, I think and am sure other members all prefer the natural wood perches too. Not only members but budgies too!! No to sand sheets, concrete perches and pedicure perches.
