I have been watching this for a while ........ Misty's beak is overly large/long. Not to the extent of being a problem, yet, but something else I have to keep an eye on. I have taken to it with an emery board (last week) and may continue to do this on a regular basis in the hope that a regular filing will help keep the growth contained. I know this most often is related to liver problems, but after all Smudge's vet bills, I really can't be getting another $200 blood test done, plus the anaesthetic, and the consultation ........ all up would be looking at around the $400 mark. Oh, crumbs!

Don't start looking for trouble Hezz. Unless the beak becomes a problem for Misty I would keep filing. A $400 consultation bill would make me feel off colour. Let's hope it is nothing serious.

Not so much looking for trouble, OP, rather preparing for what I know must be addressed in the future. I have milk thistle drops and liver detox supplement that I will get him started on, but ....................

They sure keep us on our toes don't they, ive similar worries with Piper at the moment , i have him on milk thistle, nothing overly specific just a hunch but until im sure i don't want to start going down the vet route. Just something to keep an eye on i think. What is the liver detox supplement you have him on Hezz?.

I had this page "Bookmarked" and just came across it again the other day. This stuff is supposed to be a SUPER FOOD, for humans as well as birds, and it looks like it helps birds with liver problems too. I grow it for my 2 boys all the time, and they love it, got a batch ready to be planted in a couple of days. I hope Misty's beak is not the start of more problems for you Hezz, fingers crossed. www.parrotparrot.com/articles/parrotdiet/wheatgrass-health-food-for-pet-birds/

All you can do really is keep up with the milk thistle etc and keep an eye on it. If it starts getting dark bruised looking spots on it then I would take Misty to the vet. His beak looks the same length that my Apples was. When did you notice it starting to grow Hezz? How old is little Misty?

I'm not sure on Misty's age as I don't know how old he was when I bought him; breeder was no help - 'under a year' ::)But I have had him for around two and half years. I tried Bluey on wheatgrass, jellybean; he wasn't much impressed, I remember. I seem to also remember that it is quite tough to eat, and this might have been the issue - he had better things to chew on. I don't really know when I first noticed it, lemonade, but several months ago.

Hi Hezz, Sorry you are having all this Budgie drama at the mo. Don't worry about the beak. If it starts getting brown spots or you notice any swelling around misty's liver area then its the liver. She looks very healthy with bright eyes. Columbo just looked knocked out when his problems flared up. He has been on harrisons super fine and food removed at night and he is doing well. Budgie hugs to your flock.

Thank you columbo. How is the little fella, these days? Yeah, Misty doesn't seem any different, in himself, in fact is a right b*^#@y nuisance when it comes to doing what I want, when I want. Too busy showing off to his lady of the day and night.

He is really good now. I think he had this problem from birth as he is like a new budgie. Loads of energy and he can now fly lightly. I used to joke he flew like 'a bus going uphill'! Fingers crossed his liver is under control.

What are the causes and symptoms of liver problems? Having seen your mention of bruised looking spots, Munchy's beak seems kinda blue over one half. I'm not sure now if he's always had that, but a couple of his poops from yesterday had a seed in them.
Just weighed him, and he's 2g heavier than usual but I forgot to weigh him for a couple of weeks and usually weigh him first thing in the morning when he would be lighter anyway.

Hi Ira. In my experience the signs i saw in Columbo were...Brown spots in the middle of his beak, Tail down and weight gain. I never saw any blue on the beak. If anything he ate like there was no tomorrow and drank excessively. He also had a swelling like a 'beer belly' and was sluggish. Never seed in the poo, just runny ones. Hope this helps.
