Hi, I'm new here. My youngest blue budgie, who is around a couple of months old, has made me worried. Here are the following symptoms I've observed:
1. At night or in the morning, he sometimes makes a noise which is very unbudgie like. I do not have a sound clip here, however I can describe it. It sounds kinda like a dog who cries, and it comes in rounds. It starts low, and escalates. He repeats the sound several times. I do not think he chooses to make it, because he can make a less "severe" version of it when he's fully asleep. I have shared bedroom with budgies for 8 years, and I did have a budgie before who sometimes talked in his sleep, but it was nothing like this.
The sound is also sometimes present when he's chirping like a normal guy, as sort of a background noise. Impossible for him to make that on purpose. I myself has asthma, and it kinda sounds like that sound when I have ran and there is so much slime so that I make that sound when breathing.
2. He easily gets out of breath. He's out of his cage and flies everyday, but he still starts panting easily. after he and the others have taken an equally long trip in the living room, he will pant and pant while you can barely hear the others breath.
3. Today (which is why I'm writing this now), he started spitting. He repeatedly spit and shook his head. Not dramatically, but noticeable. I'm not so sure exactly what he was doing, but it was the same thing they normally do, but it was repeated in a way not natural.
4. He's from the same breeder as one of the other ones, who is completely fine. In fact, he's more than fine. He has a perfect position, is very clever, smooth body. My blue one (which I'm worried about) on the other hand, is still very clumsy, not such a good flyer, stands "retardedly" at times etc. I know this is normal, but it could still be a sign of for example his body not being as developed as it should be. That could link to his lungs.
5. He's droppings have always been a little too wet. He gets fresh water everyday, seeds, vegetables, fruit, UV-light etc.
I do have the money to go see the veterinarian. The reason why I haven't one there yet, is because I do not want to cause my budgies unnecessarily stress. I do not have anything against a retarded little budgie who pants way too easily and acts like a baby, but his behavior might indicate a problem or illness which can be very unpleasant for him, if not kill him. I hope some of you have any advice or knows what this is. Thanks!
EDIT: he's just chilling on the table right now, but I can still hear that noise.
