Might end up at the vet tomorrow, but I need to know what the vet do to check for illnesses related to respiratory problems. Do they perform a crop flush? In case they do, does it hurt? If the budgie is tame, is it ethical to chug down a stick down its throat? Scared of causing more harm than good.

I completely understand your concern, Ghost. Budgies are such little creatures, you hate to cause them discomfort or pain, even if it is for their own good. Hope the vet can help. Keep us posted.

A crop wash is not going to help with respiratory infections; crops are part of the digestive system, not respiratory. I have not had to go down this track, so sorry, I can't help either.

Do hope the vet is a good one who knows what they're doing or has the honesty to say otherwise! Hoping for a full recovery for you little bird.
