Hi, I'm new to this forum and to pet birds I bought a pair of budgies from a local store for my young boy's birthday. We have them since 3 weeks now, and I'm reading a lot about budgies to make sure we raise them in the best way possible. Recently I noticed that the female budgie's left eye lid seems a bit oversized and darker in color compared to her right eye or to the male budgie. Also, I noticed that her beak looks like its pealing?? I'm not sure what are these white lines near to the edge. Please help me understand if I need to treat them or not to worry! I hope the photos are clear enough! Thanks in advance for the help

Welcome to the forum. It looks like a bruise on the eyelid. I would just watch it and make sure it gets better and not any worse. The beak looks fine, just normal shedding in my opinion. Looks like a healthy bird.

Agree, your little girl looks in great shape, just a little bruise or rub there around that eye. It should revert to normal within a week or so, but if it seems to be getting swollen or look infected, a topical eye ointment (Golden Eye Ointment, if available) is safe to use on budgies. You may be able to get this from a chemist. Otherwise bathing the eye with a cold black wet teabag can give relief as well. As the eye itself looks fine, I don't think you really need to worry.

Thank you all for the responses! I Feel much relieved now.
If it's a bruise then I guess it might be from the male budgie. He's a bit older than her and kinda give her hard time every now and then

Welcome to the forum dubai911 and your beautiful budgie. Hope her eye gets better very soon. As Hezz said, Golden Eye ointment is very good and ok for budgies if the problem does get worse.

Hi again! So my green budgie is recovered and her eyes are better since then. Only yesterday I noticed that her breathing sounds like whistling... but mainly when she's breathing heavily i.e. flying across the room. Also, her dropping is watery... Is this a sign of a health issue?

Watery droppings could be what she is eating if she is eating a lot of fresh veg. Sorry I can't help on the breathing but someone will be about soon to help. Glad her eye is better

I'm wondering if perhaps it could be stress, if you haven't had them very long and they look very young? Perhaps just the move, change of food/water and getting settled in. My two newbies droppings were very loose for a while but they're fine now they're more settled. I hope that's all it is!

dubai911, there is a series of videos on Youtube by a avian vet called Dr Ross Perry dealing with a budgie with a squeak when under stress. They are very informative, and may help you to decide if this is the same as your little green hen has. I have watched 3-4 or these and I think in the third one you can hear quite clearly the sound that this little guy makes under stress, if it is of any help. Not sure if the vet mentions this through the videos, either, but sometimes a hypoactive thyroid can cause this noise as well, easily treated by adding iodine tincture to her water, or the other common cause can be air sac mites, also easily treated with 0.1% Ivermectin available on-line. I am not sure where would be the easiest place for you to source this from, if you are not able to find it locally. The runny poo may or may not be a health issue. Bathing, or fresh veggies can sometimes cause this, but the dropping would return to normal within a day.
