so happy this evening, 7 weeks of taming piggle and today I got her on my finger and she stayed there, at the begining I asked for advise as she would breath heavy and looked like to be sick so I am very pleased with how far she has come

I just put my finger at the opposite end of the perch from where she was and left it there whilst I spoke to her then over time gradually moved it closer to her and today I kept moving and got right next to her then took the plunge and on she came, only thing was she then wouldnt get off lol

It really does take longer than people think, but they suddenly come good. Just keep it up and try to teach her more things. See if you can teach her to come to you on command as well.

I think a lot has to do with how much contact they have with people while still in the nest. If their fist real contact with people is someone (new owner) coming on strong it is bond to be scary for the little fellas - just lost their homes, and parents and then along comes HUMAN. Whereas if they have been handled in their nest box and later outside it, they are bound to be more trusting. Well done, Juju. So happy things have moved along for you two. Have you had her out of the cage with you, yet? Getting her to stay put while you move around will be the next hurdle.

Unfortunately they are like us - good days and bad days. Some days we want to be sociable and other times hide under the blankets. I have a little feral (Sparky) who some days behaves as though I have known him from day 1, and other days I can barely get near him, he gets so skittish. Patience and persistance, Juju.

Well done Juju! You've shown a lot of patience and it has paid off in the end.. :-) It must feel great.. Don't be discouraged by setbacks, just keep doing what you have been as the training doesn't stop when they step up first time. Sometimes she will want to come and sometimes she won't. My Pepito was hand tame when I got him (a lovely surprise when he stepped up on command the first day I had him! :-)) but he still has times when he doesn't want to come to me. I think it's good to not force the issue if they really dont want to sometimes as they will trust you more. Maybe when she does that just back off for a few minutes and come back with a treat to try again. I've found budgies don't want to be bothered when they're preening, maybe you've noticed that too? ;-)

Yes, Ruth. Preening is serious business, and due process must be adhered to!

well when I clean her out every morning she sometimes flys as if she wants to land on my arm ,(either that or she is just teasing me lol ) she is in her first moult at the moment so maybe thats why too, other than this she is fine, loves playing with her toys and comes up to the bars of the cage when im talking to her, she really seems to listen and takes interest when I speak to her, I will continue but I am happy to how far she has come, she was so scared when I first bought her home, so im happy to just watch her play till she feels ready

Mind if I join this thread, since it's about progress? Frankie & Benny are really showing their different personalities now - Benny is much more open to bribery with the millet and has now been on my finger several times, and I've even been able to move him through the door and out while he's on it, only inches from my face! He's so obsessed with the millet he doesn't care! Frankie will stretch her neck to get some from my hand, but refuses to put a foot on me....on another matter, her droppings are always looser than Benny's but she seems well in herself, eating and bouncing around just as much as Benny - any reason to worry, do you think? Our previous budgie had permanently loose droppings but it seemed to be just how he was!

I wouldn't worry overly, maz. Just keep an eye on her. She may just drink more water or greens than Benny. Just watch and see if there are any other changes that show up.
