Hi there.
I'm a new owner of this guy down below. He's just passed his 1 week milestone and seems to be adjusting on schedule. I was afraid he'd never adjust, but he seems to be settling in. I try not to disturb him too much. His name is Mr. Blue Sky (Named after the song by Electric Light Orchestra).
I feel kind of bad for him, since he doesn't have anything to do inside his cage yet. He's sat on that top perch for most of the week before deciding it was safe enough to move about while I'm around. I hope to migrate some toys into his cage soon.
Getting acclimated
I originally had him sitting by my computer monitor, but I felt that it was too stressful for him at this time since this had me staring in his general direction for long periods. I decided to place him up on my dresser where it gave him a higher spot to perch and a place where he would be less intimidated by me... I still wanted to keep an eye on him though, so I set up a webcam so I can stare at him without him knowing <--- Budgie stalker action
This way I could make sure he's doing ok and tell him what a good bird he is whenever he did something brave... I think that made him nervous. He is starting to grow accustomed to me talking to him, though.
Dual monitor setup. Budgie-cam is on the right. The toy chickens are for Mr. Blue once he settles in .
Mr. Blue's new home a few weeks before I bought him.
I only have the original plastic perches at this time. I hope to get Mr. Blue set up with some variety soon.
I know that a lot of people recommend the concrete perches, but I read a review online where someone's budgie cut their toe on the abrasive surface and the toe had to be removed due to infection. Is this something I should be concerned about? Or is that mainly an issue with sand perches?
building a coconut house
I saw one for sale on Amazon and figured I could try to make one myself . I'm not sure if Blue will like it or not, but if not maybe I can use it as a foraging toy.
I made a small ladder out of the doorway I cut out. My first time using a rotary tool (a bit scary. I'm not fond of losing fingers... Can't say from experience, but I'm quite confident that I wouldn't like it).
But anyways, this is Mr. Blue and this is me. Hello everyone!
