It was beak trimming time for poor little piper today, im sure the little chap has liver problems because he now has bruising on his beak . Its only the second time ive had to do it and he was a very good boy but wriggled free before i could file the sides and take an after trim pic. He is managing his food fine but im aware that the beak is a bit squared off, will it be ok? To add insult to injury he is going through a hideous moult but is otherwise quite happy bless him

I wont put it on here as there are some distressing pictures but you would be surprised as to what kind of a condition a beak can get into and it doesn't hinder them eating

well its the lower mandible that does the work the top is just to support so as long as they can pick up food, that's why you really don't have to worry hun

Skysmum, does his beak look big in his face? That might seem a strange question, but from the photos it doesn't; it just looks a bit long. Misty's beak looks big for his face, his cheek feathers don't cover the majority of his beak, like the others are. Not lots but that is what first caught my attention, and his beak isn't sharply pointed as Piper's seems to be in your photo. Maybe Misty's is a roman budgie beak.

I know what you mean Hezz, and his is completely normal size wise, this rapid growth just started recently and has come hand in glove with 2 awful and unusual moults, his feathers are dropping out at the rate of knots. Im starting to wonder if he has PBFD

Oh, no! I do hope not, for everyone's sake. Poor widdle Piper. Remember me asking you about your FM a while back, for Spyro? Well, he hadn't moulted another feather in all this time since, only just recently, but so did Sparky and Misty ...... all the boys. Hopefully Piper is just going through a rough spot at the moment and will come out the other side better than ever. Fingers crossed. xx

That's great news about little Spyro Hezz, ive been meaning to ask how he is doing . As you say its probably just a extra bad moult with Piper. Im keeping a note of how often im having to trim his beak and shall see how he goes, he seems otherwise well in himself.

It is always good to document these things; you think you are going to remember, but if your are anything like me, never do!
