My friends mother has to go into a nursing home and she has an 8 year old budgie, not sure of gender, it needs rehoming as soon as possible. If anyone can help or knows of anyone in our area could you please let me know.

Such a shame, I rescued my friends budgie 2 years ago which started me on keeping budgies, but the oh says no more. I know there was someone around her what took in old budgies but I can't find it. Fingers crossed someone may know on here.
Thanks Marianne

He has never been let out of cage either, they used to feed him on just millet but he will eat seed now. I think my two are so hyper they would give him a heart attack.

Hope this little birdie gets sorted out. I am about to visit a relative in a care home in Northumberland where they have a single budgie in a small cage and not much to amuse him. I feel sorry for him, wee soul. Would be nice if your Stoke on Trent budgie could join him...

A bit too far to go I'm afraid.

Sounds like something to think about. It would be nice for both little buds.

I would gladly take it Sue, plenty of room in my aviary but sadly I am too far away. Does it have a name and what colour is it?

Sorry, but not this time. Apart from the budgie called Joey. I don't want to take on another at the moment. I have changed my car for a new one and it is an all electric one. It could do the trip but I have too many appointments spread out all over the place. I hope you find some-one. Sorry to hear your friend's mother is going into a home. Hopefully she will get the care that she needs.

How sad for your friends mother in law and Joey. Amazing age given it's diet. Just a thought, maybe the nursing home she is going to, would consider taking Joey? A lot of places think lets are good. Especially as mentioned already, the other nursing home has one. Maybe nice for friends mother in law to feel settled

I will tell her tomorrow about your suggestions that the home may take him. Thank you for your input. It has come as a shock about her mum, she has developed dementia over the last 2 months, she will have the care she needs.
Thank you to everyone

Hope it all works out, suesbird. Not easy on everyone involved. But hopefully Joey will find a good home.

My friend is going to ask at the nursing home if they will take the bird, they do have a rabbit that someone took in and he lives in the garden happily, and the patients love him, so fingers crossed he may be able to go with his mum. I think it would be good therapy for them as everyone has to talk to a little budgie
