Hi all,
This is my first post.
I have two male budgies in a large cage, actually two tall cages that I joined together after removing the left hand side of one cage and the right hand side of the other. We have had them for about 6 months and they have been a pair of active and inquisitive young birds. We noticed a few weeks ago that the end of the Green ones tail was bent and tatty and assumed the Blue one had nipped it. I noticed this morning that the Blue ones tail is showing the same traits as the Green one.
They are fed on Avia Budgie seed sprinkled with Groat oats from the local pet shop. Always have some millet hung in the cage. They have regular slices of Apple that they seem to like, and have tried carrot and other veg that they aren't too keen on, yet!
They are still active and singing away, but if the tail problem is food related I would like to sort it out sooner than later.
Many Thanks. Bill W.

curling to the side? cuz my male budgie has the same thing, not the female though, maybe bcuz her tail is shorter? I figured mine out, when he stands on a perch, his too long tail gets curled by the wall of the cage. It may go back to normal if you re-arrage the perches I hope that is the problem with your budgie =)

Hi Bill
Welcome to the forum!
Any chance of a photo of the birds tails?
Thanks
Marianne

If it is the very last centimetre of the tail bent at an angle sharply, my bet would be on the birds nipping each other's tail. Young birds can be right little rascals at this.
Do the birds ever come out of the cage? If not, it is possible they are thoroughly bored with everything and finding (destructive) ways to amuse themselves.
