This sounds like an incredibly stupid question as I'm sure it is safe if it's to be used for our budgies but i wanted to ask anyway... I'm with Sky mostly all day every day, would the UV light be safe for me to be around so much? Again.. apologies if this is a ridiculous question! The other thing is, with the clip on light, is the light quite close against the bars because I do have visions of Sky trying to peck/destroy it or is it adjustable that you can clip it on to the cage but set the actual lamp bit so it's not right on the bars for the birds to peck at? Thanks in advance

The light output from the bulb is like the equivalent to a 20w incandescent bulb. If it is used as suggested it is only on for 4-5 hours per day, so should be safe enough. If you get the kit the holder is off the cage bars so a budgie cannot reach it from inside the cage, if the budgie was out side the cage it still couldn't reach the bulb as it is behind a mesh guard. The holder does not have to be fit to the cage but the further away it is the less effect the budgie(s) will get.

Thanks OP (learnt how to tag you!!). Is this Arcadia E27 one the best to go for? If she can't reach it from inside the cage then that's good - I would have it fitted on to the cage

As far as I am aware the Arcadia E27 is the best, but I am a novice with this myself. Perhaps someone would like to help out with this. We all something on this forum, even tagging.

If you have not already read this Becca, it might help you make your mind up. The floor lamp is the one I have, but the Arcadia link tells you a bit about all 3, I hope it helps you. I certainly like mine, and so do the buds www.arcadia-bird.com/parrot-pro-uv-flood/

Wait.. you meant flood light didn't you? It's only just clicked with me ;D I'm concerned that with the E27 Sky might be able to nibble that lead.. but then size wise the E27 seems best to fit on her cage. Decisions

Oh dear you did mean floor, hehe sorry! Is there a difference between the floor ones and clip on ones in terms of benefits to birds? I think I will go for the clip on one and get my Dad to cover the lead with some plastic so she can't nibble at it thank you for the links jellybean (I just wrote jellybaby )

No it doesn't, unfortunately for you. The UVB lights are specifically designed for the particular species targeted .......... there are different ones for reptiles as well.

The floor standing lamp and the E27 kit are both equally as beneficial for your birds. It just depends which style suits your set up the most and your birds temprament. I will say though, please never use human SAD lights or reptiles lights. The UVA and UVB needed for birds is very specific and the wrong light can actually cause your bird harm. They can cause cataracts and blindness so please, either use a proper avian lamp or none at all

Thanks scarlett, I haven't used my SAD lamp in a few years and now definitely won't be, at least not in the same room as Sky. Are you the Scarlett who owns Scarlett's parrot essentials? How long is the offer on for the E27?

You`ll be safe to use the light in the same room as your bird, the SAD light that is, just not withing say 5 feet of him. Yes I am the same Scarlett and the offer should be on for a few months yet We bought lots of bulk supply so we can run it until stocks are short so there`s no panic to buy anything if you`re thinking that way
