So.. outside of the cage Sky is super loving and sweet (with the occasional angry bite and whatnot, a bit jekyll & hyde). But inside the cage when I go to put my hand in to get her bowl to clean and replace with egg food she really goes for me, the same if I try to pick something up from the bottom of her cage. I know it's because it is 'her' home, but how do I stop her from doing this, if it's possible?
When I get her out I say 'do you want to come out?' and she will run over and jump on to my hand when I put it in. The times that she doesn't want to come out when I ask her she will lightly peck at me to say no.
It's not a huge problem because generally she's a really lovely bird and I absolutely love having her out and about, but it would be nice not to be really bitten when I'm just trying to clean bits and pieces!
Oh also, she usually sits out on top of the cage whilst I fully clean her cage and she loves it, so it's definitely a case of her being protective over her home.

I'm just learning about hens, so I'm not much use at the moment.

My hens were definitely territorial about their home & their things. Under no circumstances could anything be moved or even touched. Atilla was terrible over her mirror swing. I had to buy another one so it was quicker (& less painful!) to whip the dirty one out & put the clean one in. Plus the two of them had to closely supervise cage cleaning to the extent that they had to peck at the cleaning cloth, "help" me unscrew perches (thank you Raspy, dear), insist on sitting on a perch I wanted to remove & naturally, both sit on my back as I was bending over to do the bottom... My boys are different.... as soon as I start to clean Cagney & Bezukhov's cage they are both out & return when the hired help has gone.

You could be so talking about Jo and Pippin here, typical hen and laid back male (I am not going to call him you know what!)

I've just sat here laughing whilst reading your post sweetpea sounds JUST like Sky! Earlier I only walked across my room to pick something up and she had landed on my bum! It definitely sounds like a hen thing then, sometimes she thinks I'm going to take a toy off of her and goes for me. Is having children this bad?

She's cage dominant. My parrots are the same. They get very annoyed at us if we touch their things. Move and change her toys regularly so she doesn't become too used to them.

Becca, I can't wash the cage with the buds around, even after I take the perches out, they still fly in and then have to hang off the sides! Not that they are aggressive about it, like Sky (as SQ says, mix things up regularly will help there - I have two separate lots of toys and change them over week about), they just don't understand why they aren't allowed home when I am trying to clean it!
