Hello guys, I just bought an English budgie a couple of weeks ago. He's about 8 weeks now. He was fine. Very active, flying all over the place, plenty of chirping. But one day last week I got home and found him outside the cage. His feathers were puffed up so I figured he was just resting. But when I got him to step up he seemed and felt weak. I immediately knew something was up. I grabbed him and let him go on top of the bed and he didnt attempt to fly. He went straight down. He's not very active anymore, he seems down, feathers puffed up a lot of the time and as the title says, he is not chirping. He tries to chirp but you can barely hear it. Sometimes it's a very low squeak and sometimes it doesn't even come out. Best way I can describe is kinda like when us humans lose our voice due to sickness or whatever else. Sometimes you see his "throat" area "blow up" like he's attempting to chirp but nothing comes out.
Any ideas?
EDIT: I forgot to mention, his appetite seems fine.

This may be something a vet needs to look into. I am not experienced but to me this really sounds bad. He could have gotten into something not meant for him. Is he eating and drinking? I know more experienced people will ask that. Do you have an avian vet?

I agree. It sounds like a vet visit would really help your bird. How do his poops look? Keep us posted.

His poop looks fine but he also has a lot of poop stuck on the feathers around his butt?

Hi jsfd26Personally IMHO I would get him to a vet. If there is trouble with breathing and chirping/singing he will no doubt have to be given some sort of meds. And poop round his vent is not a great sign but get him to the vets to sort him out. In the meantime I would advise to keep him somewhere dark-ish and warm as the "fluffing up" means he is trying to conserve heat because he is feeling poorly. Let us know how you get on
