Sky has A LOT of pin feathers on her head and today I looked at them and they're a light pink colour?! I've never seen them this colour before? Is this normal? Normally she likes me itching them for her but well it's like they're painful for me to rub for her now, these aren't what you call blood feathers are they?

Yes it is normal, it is the blood supply to them and usually they look like this in their early stages My boys get them frequently, so looks like light luke warm water mistings will be in order for sky then! They do look sore tho don't they?

Because Sky's head is white, you can see these blood feathers more clearly than on a yellow faced bird. Once they grow through a bit, she may want you to give her a scratch, or if you can, you can get the pin feathers gently between your fingers and roll them, making sure not to pull on them. She will let you know if you do.

Just a thought - One of the things that would be handy to keep in your budgie first aid box is a little tub of cornflour for such things as blood feathers should they occur. As sometimes blood feathers can happen, you need to stop the flow of blood as budgies can lose quite a bit and that can be fatal. My boys have had one or two like this: Cornflour helps a lot

Billy has started moulting quite a lot this week and I noticed the same pink colour.Another question answered, thanks all.
