No problem Steve, any advice / comments welcome Yes its willow. I have one in the garden and have been using it for their cage perches. I had been stripping the bark previously, baking in the oven and disinfecting but read somewhere on here that the bark is actually quite good for them. I have been reading up quite a lot from deciding to have budgies and then again since deciding to build my aviary. I would be really upset If anything happened to my (daughters really!) little fellas because of something that I had done wrong so I would never be offended by any of your comments or advice. I've learnt far more from you guys on here than I learnt myself trawling the internet! Gareth

Finally the boys are in. Had to put them into the outside flight first as their cage was an inch too wide to get through the inside door. Doh! Hope they can find their way in tonight..

Looks brilliant . Just a thought, did you acclimatise them before you put them in. it just that going from a warm house to the outside, especially at night when its still a bit chilly can be a bit of shock to them. Ive still got some background heat inside mine for the nights, just maybe worth making sure they have found their way inside tonight is all, hope you don't mind me saying

Yes we have been trying to as much as possible since we decided on the aviary. Its warm and insulated in the inside part but unfortunately they haven't ventured in there yet . Their cage is still in there and they have just got themselves back in. We're just wondering whether to bring them back in the house or just cover the cage with a thick blanket? They are used to 16'c at night and its supposed to drop to 11'c here....

Could you not take them out of the cage with your hand and pop them through the bob hole, have you a night light inside.

We just went to try that but they have come out of their cage and totally freaked out. We're really worried now and think maybe we should have left them to it. Fingers crossed they'll be ok tonight. I don't want to stress them out anymore.

Gareth mine have been down to 2c on a few occasions before the heater tube was added. Now I try and keep it around 10c. Their body temps would have adjusted as the day came to a close and dusk fell. Personally I wouldn't be worried. Originally, my birds went into the shed around October time, without any heating. You just have to be careful of cold drafts rather than an overall temperature drop.

I don't want to stress them out anymore. lol... Don't worry about it too much as they are surprisingly hardy and temp tonight not to bad. Have you got a light inside the shed maybe worth leaving on and the light should get them back in. Also try putting some fave seeds down to guide them back inside maybe not tonight as they will probably be settled. When mine eventually get to the outside world I will not have any food outside so hopefully that should get them in

They did look quite happy sitting back in their cage. I wish we had just left them now (easy in hindsight I guess!) just hope they haven't hurt themselves because of us fussing over them. Hopefully we'll all get a good night sleep and start again tomorrow.. Thanks for your comments guys.
