Is it usual for them to sleep tucked up when they are moulting? Jo usually active, she has been quiet whilst she has been moulting but today she has spent quite a long time with her head tucked on her back fast asleep. Is this normal? She has eaten and had a drink.

My two are a bit like that too suesbird when moulting, they are losing the soft downy feathers at the moment, and both yesterday and today have been a bit quieter, and sleeping with the head tucked in, then they have little bursts of energy and play about for a wee while then have another nap. I'd say you have nothing to worry about.

Sounds all very normal, suesbird. Like jellybean, I think you have nothing to worry about.

Even Whiskers has a nap when he is moulting, albeit a very short one. Both Joey and Edward have naps with their head tucked in. How they can do that with Whiskers bouncing about the cage I don't know. Edward has dreams I'm sure. There are many times I will hear her chirping and when I look the head is tucked in the wings. She can do this anytime. Just as a side note, as anyone seen them tuck their head in. I have seen both Joey and Edward turn their head round and part the feathers as they put their head down. It's wonderful. Sorry to go off topic.

Yeah my lot do too - especially Alfie - he seems to suffer the moults the worst as he makes me think he is ill! Until the following day he is back to his usually noisy screechy self

yep that is what Jo was doing yesterday, parting her feathers and tucking in. She is still quiet today but not sleeping as much. I just want the noise to start again as Pippin is also moulting and he is quiet when she is, unless he is out on his own and then he walks about talking to himself

Billy started moulting quite a lot this weekend,he doesn't seem quite as active as usual. We normally put his toys on the floor around 5pm and he will play with them pretty much non stop till bedtime (9-10).He has still been playing with them but nowhere near as much and makes a lot more returns to the top of his cage for a good preen and a feed.

He could well appreciate an earlier bedtime, too. Are you giving him egg or eggfood to help him keep his energy up?

You have got to be joking, Billy cannot stand being in his cage,he will squash himself against bars trying to get back out and the way he throws himself around in it I am concerned about him damaging his wings. He loves being out and interacting with us and as you will probably have noticed from my previous comments he does spend most of the evening playing on the living room floor etc.We have found it less stressful for all of us to wait till he starts to show signs of tiring then put him back in his cage and covering him up.Some nights he goes in without a murmur and others he goes barmy ps Yes he is getting regular portions of fresh egg + plenty of variety with his diet.
