Hi I've finally gotten round to starting a breeding journal for one of my aviary budgie pairs, Dexter and Peggy. Here they are: Dexter (left) and Peggy (right) This is my first time breeding my budgies in almost three years. In fact Peggy is one of the babies from that time. Paired up: 30th April 2015 First egg laid: 9th May 2015 No sign of egg number two yet but I'm hopeful that Peggy will have laid it by tomorrow morning.

Good luck, Rachael, Peggy and Dexter. May your egg production be bountiful and your chicks hale and healthy ....... that's for the buds, Rachael, not you.

Still no sign of egg number two so I'm feeling a bit puzzled lol. She does seem to have a rounded vent so I expected to see an egg this morning but nothing yet

You know, with all the eggs Mango has dropped, I have not noticed her with anything different in the vent area. The thing I have noticed is that she gets a whole different posture ..... elongated, with a dropped tail is the best description I can come up with ....... will try to get a photo ...... if I remember to ....

Well it's four days after she laid her first egg and there's still no sign of a second. I'm not worried about Peggy being egg bound because she's showing none of the signs. I've spoken to Barrie Shutt and he said it can happen where a hen lays just one egg and then stops, he usually moves that one egg to another pair for them to foster and that encourages the hen to lay another and hopefully more. I don't have that option though because I've only Peggy and Dexter paired up so he's told me to wait two or three more days and see if the egg is fertile. If its not then remove it and wait to see if she starts laying again. So, in a way, I'm hoping its not fertile but I also want it to be lol. I don't mind if she only has the one baby.

Well she's three days late but... *drum roll please* Peggy has laid a second egg!! I changed one of the perches in there for a solid dowel perch as the other one had come loose so maybe that made the difference, who knows.

Rachael Kellett, how often do you give them calcium in their water? I ask as Mango has become a cronic egg layer, unfortunately, due to Misty's constant attention, and while they get it three times a fortnight, this is obviously not enough as she is laying eggs with very thin shells now. I don't want her to become calcium depleted.

I don't want her to become calcium depleted. I'm giving them calcium in their water every day and have been since pairing them up. The one I have you put 5ml into every litre of water so I make up a mixed bottle of it and keep it in the fridge, making sure to mix up fresh stuff every couple of days.

They also have oyster shell grit in a tiny dish and I give them a small spoonful of egg food on veggies each day. The egg food is some I was sent by a friend and it's called egg food plus, it has little shrimps in it and Dexter dives on it haha!
