Thank you all for your kind words. I am still heartbroken my house just is so quiet now. I just dont know what happened. As some will know he has had health problems in the past but this seemed very different.
He had been a little quiet for a few days and appeared to be going thru another molt which was strange as he only had been thru a pretty bad one 2 months ago. I came in from work Wed said hello to him. He was lying on his cuttlefish bone at the time which he doesnt do often. Anyway was getting dinner ready etc and about an hour later heard him fall. He hopped back up i went over to see he was ok and i noticed his wing looked strange. On closer inspection i saw it was dried blood and that there was blood spatters on the curtain next to him and on the bottom of the cage. Charlie kept picking at it. Googled what to do and saw a few sites that said use a little corn flour to stop bleeding and take to vet. As previously mentioned the vet was closed so i took Charlie out to have a look at wing which in itself was always a chalenge. To me it looked like the blood was dried could not see an area with bleeding but his whole underside of the wing was very sore looking, quite red and bald.Put a little corn flour on. He hopped back up to his swing (his comfort place) and we tried to stop him picking at it.
Thurs morning i got up and there was more blood spatters at the bottom of his cage. I checked his food he had barely eaten. i was gonna stay off work but as its a new job my mum said she would wait with him. She called the surgery they said the vet wouldnt be in until 2pm even for an emergency. My mum said he just became weaker he was falling, she kept putting water and pressure on the wing, fed him water by mouth and tried to hand feed him. In phoning the surgery back they said bring him in put he will be put in a waiting room till the vet is in. They recommended emergency vets but this was a good 20 min drive and had i been there i wouldnt have put him thru this journey either as even the journey to the local vet caused him a lot of distress. In the end my mum wasnt given the choice as he started fitting. my mum took him out stroked him until he passed.
My mum and me are heartbroken and guilty we didnt do enough. My mum was comforted that i too said i wouldnt have taken him to emergency, and i certainly wouldnt have taken him to sit in a strange room waiting on a vet where he likely would have been alone when he died. My mum also feels that even with an earlier appointment there was probably little the vet could do. This i just dont know. I just have no idea what happened to his wing and wonder did i do enough.

Please don't blame yourself, it is likely that illness caused his fall and not the other way around. They are very good at hiding illness.
You and your mother loved Charlie and did the best that you could.
Stroking him would have given some comfort at his hour of need.
He's in budgie heaven now with the many others that have passed on. Eating millet and causing mischief. X
