We are back again....we have been very busy with work, school, training a new puppy, and every day life....we still have our outdoor aviary with 8 budgies and 5 Chinese Button Quails....indoors we have 3 budgies....one that has always thought she was human and a blind budgie with his BFF who takes wonderful care of him....
Our blind budgie has come from a breeder whom we believe has "over-bred" their birds to find the "just right one"....lucky for us when he was in the outdoor aviary he bonded with one that was very social and a great care giver so when we noticed that his behaviour changed we were able to bring him in...he stopped flying and would only "crawl" along the screen of the aviary....plus we noticed that certain budgies were feeding him which normally would not happen....once we got him inside we could put our hand up to his face and he would not move....and if he was moving around the cage we could put our hand in and he will walk over it to get to the next branch....and since he is not hand-tamed we knew something was wrong....we have arranged the cage so that Edmund (blind) can find his way without falling and he has learn to "feel" his way around....he does have free flight time in our conservatory with Oswin (BFF)....Our conservatory is the safest room in the house for this as it is a room he knew before he went blind as he was part of the "budgie nursery" before he went into the aviary and we have not changed the room in any way....Oswin will call to him so that Edmund can find his way back to the cage....however their favourite thing is to waddle on the floor....
We don't breed budgies as some of you know....our aviary is for those budgies that need new homes, those that are retired from breeding, and some from a pet store that has now closed down due to their selling habits....the "budgie nursery" is set up for budgies that we receive in the winter months when it is too cold to introduce them to the aviary.....
Hope all of you are well and we look forward to reading budgie stories.....
