So I've been thinking about getting two budgies instead of one so I wondering. How easy is it to tame two buds? Or should I just get one budgie, tame it, and then get another later? I'm so conflicted. I want two but I'd like them to be tame. >.<

Hello... There are people on here that know a lot more about budgies than I do but in my experience... I have had both one budgie on his own and then later two budgies that I bought at the same time. If you have plenty of time to spend with one budgie, once they trust you they can become very tame. The second time round we got two together. This was more because of our life style and we couldn't spend the amount of time we would have liked with them so thought they would keep each other company when we were out. It did take a little longer to tame them and earn their trust (one was always more confident than the other and still is) but with patience it can be done. Good luck

That's good to hear. Yes I would be spending a lot of time with them. But when summer ends I would be gone from 7:45am to 2:30pm. So I have been thinking about getting two. My mom is okay with it but I guess it largely depends on what Noah's Ark (my local petshop) has in stock. I was thinking about trying to get a male and female.

I guess they went 2 by 2 in to Noah's Ark?! I think males tend to get along a bit easier but I have only owned males so I can't advise you on having a male and a female but I'm sure people will come along with more info for you soon.

I meant that I would be having a good look at gender and age of the birds, so if anyone can help with that too that would be great. They stock Hagen cages so I will probably get one of those cages, but I'm at a limit (set by my mom) of $120. I already have some supplies but not everything. Budgies are $24 each and cages start at $25. I got into thinking about getting two because once they're tame I might try my hand at breeding them. The idea appeals to me. >.>

As a first time bird owner, I would advise against getting two, particularly if you want them tame. You are much better off getting one, spending tons of time with it, forming good bonds and then, possibly, getting another. Before looking into breeding, you will need to do a whole lot of research, as, while things can go very well without any problems, they can also go pear-shaped very quickly, leaving you with both dead chicks and parents. A breeder I know advised me never to breed with your pets, budgies that is; there are too many things that can go wrong. If you do succeed in breeding, then you need to consider how you are going to care for the extra birds, or are you going to sell them.
I am always the voice of doom and gloom, but sometimes people only see the rosy side of things, not the negatives. You may find you are not a bird person after all. Also if you do decide to breed, you have a window of opportunity of around 2 years that are optimum for the hen to breed. Think long and hard about everything before rushing in to something you may not be prepared for.

Hezz, you're right. I have been thinking about it and I have decided to just get one. I guess I just got a little star struck at the breeding section of the forum. Silly me. ^.^ And considering it'll be twice the vet bills, etc, for two it's probably better if I just get one.

Good girl! I was going to mention twice the cost, if a vet is needed, twice the opportunity for things to go wrong ...... I thought I was being negative enough as it was. The breeding section can be very bewitching, I know.
