This little hen came in a few weeks ago. I noticed that she wasn't perching properly and was very inactive so popped her out the back in the quarantine cage... Her feet appear to be a bit swollen/purple and sore - I'm assuming bumblefoot but it looks very different to how Sid's feet looked when he had it? Also Sid never acted as though he was in pain where as this little bird is clearly uncomfortable. She's a bit soggy in this photo because I've just washed her feet... It's difficult when we have an unwell animal at work. It's not my pet shop and obviously the company do not want to pay out large vet bills, but at the same time we are unable to sell animals that are not well. Usually what happens is the staff end up just taking the animal home - which is why I have Sunny (he's got a funky leg). But I really cannot take any more budgies home! So I'm doing my best to get this little lady sorted out but does anyone have any advice - does it look like bumblefoot or something different? I've been applying Savlon twice a day to her feet and we are bathing her feet in warm water. Her feet are already looking a lot smoother and less blistered but they're still quite swollen. I've also wrapped her perches in bandages. On her soft and squidgy perch

Aw bless. She looks a bit like my little Apple did. As for the feet, my vet gave me iodine for Paddys feet. Also have a look at forum member h20s post recently about treating bumble foot. That will help

It doesn't look like bumble foot to me. At least not like any I've come across. Could it be burns caused by ammonia build up in the nest box from the poo?

Have you got any sudocreme? It works wonders on feet and is safe for animals. I find it stays on well too as it's thick and sticky.

Tacey, I am not sure, but to me in that first photo, it looks as though her joints are swollen as well. And the red on her feet seems to be going up her leg, almost up to those first joints, or her elbows, if you like. I don't have any clue what could have caused it, though, sorry. The sores, if they are sores, are in a odd spot as well, further back and between the toes. I am sorry, I cannot help except to suggest that an anti-inflammatory would probably help her.

Her feet did look a lot more scabby and dry to start with, but now there are those odd sores left and of course the swelling. Any suggestions of natural anti inflammatories I could try? When sidly had swollen joints due to gout I used Devilsclaw tincture with good results so perhaps I could try that.

Tumeric comes to mind, or anything containing curcumin, as does the bark of the willow tree, white willow particularly, apparently. The devils claw sounds like a good place to start, particularly if you already have it.

It can be bought as capsules, but I have not used them. From what I have read, you can simply break open the capsules and feed this to them, over their food, I guess would be the easiest way for a bird that is not your own. You are going above and beyond the call of duty, here, Tacey. I take my hat off to you. I do hope you can manage to give this little girl some relief, but you are doing a great job, regardless.
