Well, the vet didn't get back to me today or leave a message for me so I'm a bit miffed about that. We are seeing him on Tuesday with one of our gerbils so I'll keep giving metronidazole until then and ask him about it while we are there. Hopefully a longer course will work and if not we'll have to see a different avian vet since this vet is leaving so soon.
Criswell's had another good day. It's medicine time now so that will be another struggle I expect. He's been out of his cage quite a few times today. I'm bpretty sure he knows that he's safe enough during the day as we only give his medicine at night.

We had Criswell's medicine done in under 5 minutes today. My OH was able to catch him in the cage. Criswell was not happy about that and grabbed on to the bars. Poor love. He had a little nibble of apple afterwards to take the bad taste away.

Oh love him, I'm so sorry to read he's been poorly again. I really do hope things pick up, he's such a sweet little thing. I hope you give that vet a telling off on Tuesday too! Please don't blame yourself by the way, I know we do though because we love them and care about them very much. Thinking of u & Criswell x

Regarding weighing, when I give Smudge her evening meds I have the scales ready as well, and just pop her on the top with my hands cupped around her but not actually touching her, take note of the weight and write it down in her diary. She has her own diary since she became so unwell and I started adding things to her water to try to help.

Criswell is still doing well. His poops look totally normal now, both day and night. For a couple of days after he vomited he was making a cough/sneeze type noise after eating but he's not doing that very often now.
It was day 5 of medicine today and we got it done with so little fuss today. I think all 3 of us our learning. Criswell sat on David's shoulder for a little while and they had a chat. The Criswell let David pop him into the carrier and from there it was easy for David to pick him up. I'm getting better with the syringe too and can now gently hold Criswell's beak with one hand and squeeze the syringe with the other. So today the actual medicine giving was done in under 2 minutes and it was much less stressful for all of us.

Thanks Hezz. We saw the vet today with our gerbil Edgar and he recommended 7 days of metronidazole this time.
After our success with medicine the night before, last night we had to fetch Criswell down from the top of the curtains 3 times.

He was probably thinking once was enough; can't be good all the time. Good luck with the rest of the week.

So pleased to hear that Criswell is on the mend. Did the vet have a band for what he treated Criswell for the first time or was it mainly him being sick? I'm asking because merry has been making a coughing noise which leads to him being sick. Maybe once a day if that. Balsa wood sometimes seems to set him off other times it's after he's flown a lap around the lounge.

Thank you jennyB. Criswell was being treated for Trichomoniasis. Although the vet didn't see any when they did a crop wash they decided to treat for that as it doesn't always show up. He had his last dose of metronidazole last night and I do hope he'll be OK now. This is his second course of meds.

Thanks for that. I'll keep fingers and wings crossed here that the meds have done the trick. Xx

A little probiotics might be good for him now, criswell.

Thanks JennyB and Hezz. Is there a particular probiotic that you'd recommend, Hezz?
