My female BB moulted two months ago and lost her flight feathers on her right wing. Now it's happened before and her feathers have always grown back but two months on and there is no sign of any of the flight feathers growing back. She appears happy in herself and is eating well so why is it taking so long for the flight feathers to grow back or is something wrong? Thanks

I have no idea why they would not grow back immediately, H2O. Even when a budgie has lost feathers other than through a normal moult, as in been grabbed, trod on, accident with flying etc, the feathers have replaced themselves right away. Is she able to fly still? Not that that is any answer to your question ...... maybe increase her egg/protein intake. Other than that, I don't know why they would not replace themselves or have any answers to stimulate the process. How old is BB? Unless the feather follicle was damaged in some way, and I don't see how that would be the case with an ordinary moult, unless she has picked up some infection or another ........ even french moulters try to replace their feathers.

It is puzzling as she's always grown the feathers back. As for age, she was a Gumtree rescue back in 2007 so we've had her 8 years and I don't think she was more than a year old then...could it be age related?
She can and does try to fly, so she still has plenty of energy in her and they have egg biscuits and plenty of fresh fruit and veg which she loves.
Just can work out why this would happen.

I can't either. I guess all you can do is look after her as she is now ....... does she manage to fly, glide to the floor, or land with an unceremonious bump???

Oh yes ...although she doesn't seem bothered while in the cage as she climbs about like a little monkey but it's when they are all out she must feel sad she can't join them all....going to give them all a weeks Abidec and see if some vitamins will help. x

She desperately wants to join them.
