Jaz went to an excellent avian vet this afternoon. The place was like a hospital, very impressive. The receptionists and nurses were second to none, and the vet was the best vet I have ever seen.
She started off by checking his poop, and straight away said it looked normal, which could probably rule out liver or kidney problems.
She then said she needed to get him out and properly examine him to be able to assess further. Bearing in mind Jaz is very nervous, and we lost our last bird of 8 years (who wasn't nervous) when a vet took him out his cage, and he sadly had a heart attack in her hands. Needless to say, I was worried about Jaz.
She said she was taking him into another room to examine him and asked did I want to be with him. I'm sorry to say I didn't, I couldn't have beared to see the above happen again.
Anyway, after about ten mins, she came out carrying Jaz Her words were "he's a feisty little fellow isn't he". Not sure if he actually bit her or not (I didn't see any blood), but he has no lumps or anything out of the ordinary that could be seen. She weighed him and he is 40g, which she said was fine.
She did seem to think that from the description it sounds like seizures and will need to do x-rays and blood tests to determine if there's anything going on inside, ie; enlarged organs or brain tumour. She said it could be a neurological problem, or some sort of toxins causing the fits.
We have booked to go back next Monday 3rd Aug for him to be put under anaesthetic for the tests to be done.
Jaz was a very good boy and loves travelling in the car (we used to take him on holiday with us). He is sleeping now after his tiring day. We are so pleased it's not looking like liver or kidney problems, but next Monday we will hopefully have some more answers.
Sorry for such a long post. Thanks for reading
