This is Astrid my new Fid. Quarantine at the moment sold to me as female and I am pretty sure she/he is a she but would like some expert opinions please. Her/his cere is a purpley base/edge with light blue and white around nostrils.

I will see what I can do tomorrow. Its getting dusk now so haven't got a natural light to get a decent picture without a flash. I am 95% sure she/he is a hen too. but in some lights it looks white around her nostrils then in other lights it looks just a pale blue. Think I am just over looking. First impressions was Hen so I think I should stick to it lol

Testing my head theory again and it is saying male. The cere is so smooth and not raised like most hens I have seen on here. Just a theory and purely a guess.

This picture was taken when she was 6 weeks old and still with the breeder? She/he is now about 8 weeks marianne. She/he is rather white around the nostrils. And definitely hen characterstics from seeing her/him with her/his peers at the breeders but could just be a bossy boy.

To your eye is the cere more pale blue or purple? 8 weeks is quite young and males usually have a purple cere at that age (dependent on mutation)

Astrid is a normal grey/green mutation the base of the cere is more pinky/purple then blue but majority of white around the nostrils. Gender confused budgie. Not a major issue if she is a he just means Evie will have another male to boss around in te next couple of months haha

I'm a bit on the male side too but a good clear recent picture would tell for sure.

I think you guys may be right having had a quick look again as the cere it looks like the white is turning blue and the base is purple. Will know for sure in a couple of weeks i reckon. Will see if i can get a better picture but Astrid doesnt like to pose as of yet lol
