Our young male Pip, occasionally makes a sort of ta -ta -ta noise like a little sneeze, and sometimes his head/neck moves like he has something stuck in his throat. He is very well and lively otherwise. I have noticed this in budgies we have had in the past. Any advice will be most appreciated.

If it sounds like a sneeze then that is probably what it is.Billy quite often does the same after having a drink and occasionally when he's been in his seed pot.

Can you get a video so we have a better idea of what you mean?

Also, does your head stay still when you sneeze?

Also, does your head stay still when you sneeze? It is a tch tch tch tch tch. Then the head movement is separate. Not sure it is a sneeze? I'll let you know about my head, next time I sneeze!

I know the noise you are meaning; mine make it sometimes if the get too much vegemite (vegemite has a pretty strong taste, or possibly water gone down the wrong way. When they do it, I would regard the sound being more in line with when we cough - something caught in their throat, drink too quickly, something with a strong taste or a taste they don't like (ie garlic). It is nothing to be worried about; I am sure they all do it, and yes they do usually give a few together so it is a tch, tch, tch. Mine usually give a little head shake at the same time.

I know what you mean too - but here is something that may help: Budgie sneeze: If they do this a lot in one go it may mean that they have something stuck like a bit of seed husk or something (which can happen) Just as long as he is not doing it all the time! Budgie coughing (not so good) This however, can be treated with Ivermectin 0.1% Spot On and if you have more than one bird all will need to be treated Hope this helps
