I am thinking girl, although the first photo threw me. Also I am not sure if she just has a very dry cere and beak, or the very beginnings of scaly face??? If you are thinking of getting her, I would treat her to be sure.

Thanks Everyone! Poop! This bird seller came highly recommended. It's a good thing I have her quarantined downstairs then. I'll treat the boys too, just to be careful. I saw that her beak was funky when I bought her but I thought it was just normal wear & tear from being in a flight with about 20 other budgies. I found the info in the Health section on the Ivermectin treatment. Ordering a bottle from an eBay seller momentarily. I'm so happy I posted these pictures & very thankful to you all for pointing it out. There are quite a few local, private budgie breeders here in Houston & I think I will seek them out when I add another girl bird. Again, Thank You So Much!

Hmmm.....The Spot On & Avimec treatment is not available in the US. It has to be ordered from Turkey or Belgium & will not arrive until the end of November or early December. I don't want to wait that long. I found a single dose of Ivermectin that you dilute in one gallon of distilled water. It kills internal & external parasites. www.allbirdproducts.com/newproductpages/ivermectin-solution.htmlHas anyone had good luck with an oral application?

she had her wings clipped or is it she has french moult x They clipped that wing before I brought her home. They butchered her, I know. They left the other wing intact. I though they were going to just take the tips off a few feathers. I would have done it myself had I known. I hope it doesn't cause a problem when the feathers start to grow out.

Is it a requirement by law that they have their wings clipped in the USA? I know all the pet shops seem to do it.

Is it a requirement by law that they have their wings clipped in the USA? I know all the pet shops seem to do it. I'm not sure if it's required. All the big name pet shops keep a few feathers on both wings trimmed. Just a few feathers in the center of the wing, they leave the long, primary feathers alone. I'm sure this is for keeping them from flying while they're still in the store. Ease of handling. I will not be trimming wings in the future. This poor bird. I'll get her turned around.

I suppose it makes some sense in a large store where the may have open topped enclosures. But the ones we have seen on here recently have really close cropped wing feathers, not just the long flights but the entire wing has been clipped. That one of yours looked like he used a box cutter. Good on you for letting them grow, hopefully they will eventually.
