Looks male from that photo, but I would be hoping that this little one is not only four weeks' old. That is way too young to be removed. The breeder should have made sure that it is husking and eating seed on its own, and not only millet. Poor little baby. Is this your first bird, or do you have experience with raising birds, particularly budgies?

I think male too, if he is 4 weeks he will be fresh out of the nest box and too young to be going solo, keep a close eye that he is feeding.

Thank you, my sister in law raised parrots and I was the hand feeder but that was 10 years ago. I will keep a close eye on him and feel his crop for fullness. I thought that was awful young to leave the nest, but I haven't had a budgie in a long time.

Agree that he looks male. The plastic ridged perches are bad for the budgies feet (don't worry, lots of us made the same mistake in the past, me included) Better to get him some natural wood ones.
