Cant WAIT to see your superb fairy wren picture Hezz they are little black and blue guys aren't they? And Gigi is approx 8-10" tall That is EXACTLY what I am after ffiscool as I had a course of hydrocortisone jabs about 8 years ago which were BRILLIANT but now they have worn off. My GP has said I have to go through the usual "oh lets see if we can sort it out cheaply" first hence the physio. It is not working (as I kinda expected) but only a few more sessions and then hopefully they will send me for the jabs (hopefully)

Oh, Sam, I see you use a frame ..... does that make things any easier? Yes, the fairy wrens are little black-and-blue boys, the hens are, as usual, much more plain, but full of their own little characters, in fact, I love the little girls more than the boys ...... always the case, uh??? These little beauties have a special place in my heart, living around the house of my parents, and making their needs - or should that be wants? - very plain. Pop always called the dominant male Bruise ..... for obvious reasons. birdlife.org.au/bird-profile/superb-fairy-wrenIn addition to the blurb on the immature boys, they can be identified from the girls by their tails - they keep a slight deep blue tint to their tail feathers.

Aren't they stunning those little Fairy Wrens Hezz. You have such beautiful birds in your country. We have a few brightly coloured ones but not many. Look forward to seeing your finished project. I do however find, on the odd occasion when I have had the 'misfortune' to pick up a dead sparrow, how I have marvelled at all the different, pretty shades of brown they are. They look a little drab flitting about but on close up they are really as beautiful as the coloured birdies. I am also really pleased to say that I now have THREE goldfinches visiting my garden every morning. Has taken two years, but my variety of garden birds is/are growing. Sorry, I seem to have digressed from the thread subject.

Yes Hezz I find it does help using a frame for cross stitch projects, especially larger ones like this! Some of the smaller projects obviously won't fit but I would recommend using one as they make the canvass nice and tight making it easier to place your needle in the correct place more quickly and easily. That's just in my experience No worries Shirls share away! I would normally love to lemonade but I just can't manage it at the moment! Am sorry is there anyone you know who can crochet? As you can pick up the pattern online for free at www.ravelry.com

I am only onto my third, ever, Sam, so very much a novice at it, and have only attempted smallish ones so far. Counting should be simple, right? With the finches, I had to make up an extra row as I had miscounted. Plus I spent about 20 minutes yesterday counting, thinking I had made another mistake, only to realise I had been put off by a half stitch, and I had been right all along. It's good fun though, seeing a picture come to life. How big is your budgie picture?

Oh I know exactly what you mean there Hezz! Sometimes I cant even remember how many I times I have counted to my next stitch as when I am just about to place my needle, I keep forgetting where the spot is! LOL! It is good fun tho yes, seeing a picture develop My picture is 10" wide by 7.5" tall! I have been working on the top 3 squares and have now moved on to a couple more with Murph's head and Wiggy. There is a total of 50 silks used in this pic

Whew!! Glad I am not the only one with counting issues! I have been giving my number two a real work out the last few days ..... today was a rainy day so absolutely perfect for a bit of cross-stitching. Okay, size wise yours is about the same size as my finches; the wrens are much more square, but still around the same kind of area.

As I don't want to take up ninz1 gallery I thought I had better start one of my own! My Nephew and his partner are expecting their first child and as I cant crochet at the moment, I thought I would do a picture as a present for their new arrival: Sketched first It wasn't as dark as this originally as it was done in fine pencil and you wouldn't have been able to see it on computer! But here is the finished coloured version: As an afterthought, I also decided to add Eeyore's tail and a quote from the AA Milne's Hundred Acre Wood AWWW!! That is so cute! I wish I could crochet as well. I love how bright it all is and the quote at the bottom. Very sweet! Do you paint as well? I bet you would be amazing with watercolours and acrylic!
