Hi everyone I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this thread or not but basically I have a question about keeping budgies and guineas together. I'm not sure if it's been answered already or not so sorry about that (I only registered today). So I have 4 Guinea pigs and they live in a 6ft X 4ft shed connected to a 12ft X 4ft run (it's 6ft tall also) and the guineas never really use the run even though they have access to it although sometimes they run around in it a bit. They also have a run on the grass that they're in for most of the day. So I was wondering whether I would be able to have some budgies in their run if I made it fully bird proof and gave them perches and everything. It just seems a bit of a waste of space when the Guineas don't use it much. The guineas would still have access to it though. The substrate would be something like hemp as it's quite cheap and every month or so I'd clean it all out and put a new layer in. So I just wondered what people's opinions on this are as I've read lots of mixed opinions on it on other sites. Also atm their run has lots of plants and bushes in it so they have lots of shelter and cover to hide in. thanks everyone

Personally I would not do it. The budgies would poo on the floor into the guinea pigs food or on the guinea pigs wouldn't they?

Big no! Guinea pigs can bite hard... and they also poop a lot, and budgies are curious. lol
And budgies can be bitey too, they can bite guinea pigs and they also are mater poopers, and they poop from above. So no. Not a happy combination.

Sorry and sadly a definite no from me. I had guinea pigs and budgies but never in the same cage. They just don't go together. As mentioned before guinea pigs can bite and they can actually cause fractures. A friend of mine had guinea pigs and she tried to stop a fight between two boars and as she got in the way, she was bitten instead and had to go A&E. Guinea pigs are quite nervous animals as are budgies too, even though with time they will get used to each other, it just doesn't seem like a safe idea. I just wouldn't risk it. Hygiene-wise it is not the best either. Birds like high spaces and pigs are always on the ground. Sometimes budgies might want to go to floor to play and may get guinea pig droppings on their feet or they might even try and eat it. The last thing is that budgies have very sensitive respiratory systems which might be a problem for guinea pigs as they eat on hay. Hay sometimes can have a few dust particles which may cause problems in the budgie. I do understand that your best interest was at heart and yes it would be beautiful to see both the animals together as they're both lovely in their own ways but best to keep them separate

Okay thank you everyone after having some more opinions I think it's better that they don't live together, as I want what's best for the 2 species, but I'm still thinking about getting budgies, so I think we're going to buy an aviary instead and put it somewhere else in the garden :3
