My poor Alan has passed away early this afternoon. He had a tumour of which kept bleeding, the vet told me this morning it is in a place that couldn't be operated on. I couldn't reach hubby by phone and although I knew Alan had to be put to sleep, I just couldn't do it without him seeing his beloved Francine one more time.
My poor Alan. He was so handsome, and Francine and him were just besotted with each other. I worry for Francine now.
I'd brought him home from the vets around dinner, and put him in the aviary. But he was insistent on messing and kept making it bleed so I brought him and Francine inside to a quiet place to rest. He'd lost so much blood this morning and it was still seeping somewhat although seemed to be clotting.
Later this afternoon I came downstairs and hubby told me Alan had passed; he'd found him at the bottom of the cage. He'd moved him out of the cage as Francine was still in it. Francine went back into the aviary and we buried Alan.
He is next to Gene in the garden, with some bulbs on the top of his grave so next spring there will be a beautiful reminder of Alan.
We'd called him Alan Turing as we'd rehomed him from our RSPCA around the time we'd watched the film The Enigma Code at the cinema - a couple of years ago now. I do not know how old Alan was, but he was very beautiful - a lovely green colour with a yellow head. He was so big, I don't know if he was an exhibition bird in a previous life before he came to live with us.
He'd been very happy here, especially with Francine, they hit it off immediately once Alan came to live with us.
You were very brave Alan towards the end, I am very proud of you and loved you very much. Until we meet again sweet dreams my darling xx
