Hi thanks for adding me. I've two little beauties, a white/blue hen and then there's the bonny cock. Theyre obviously different parents but have been together from birth approx 2yrs old. She's slightly blind in one eye and rules the feeding bowl with an iron fist although the do get along well in general. They are pretty tame, will both step up and chirp noisily early morning and late afternoon but never been singers or talkers (guess that's because they have each other)?
My questions are he doesn't seem to molt much but she appears to have a good shed at least once every couple of months. Is this OK? She's doesn't pluck and doesn't have bald patches and doesn't appear to be stressed at all and spend time inside and I also take their cage outside for the day so long as it's warm enough. I give them a regular spray or warm water but that's it. Is there anything to worry about?
Another question is I've placed a bird box in the cage with a usual concave with shavings in but they express little interest. They do scratch and chew at it but she doesn't display any mating signs at Lloyd and appear not to be "getting it on" so to speak.
I tried the finely dried chop greens and Carrots and the mix Inc apple etc neither are touched. They will though eat raw carrots, mixed seed, millet, Apple and some fresh greens. Is there anything I can do to get them on the more nutritious fresh vegetables? what diet do you recommend
Thanks in advance. Neil

Some budgies do seem to moult more than others, without there being any defects to their plumage. I have a cock who is almost constantly moulting and a hen who rarely seems to lose more than the odd one. As for them breeding, they either will, or they won't. While you can do all you can to help them feel the lurve, if they are not taking the hint, so be it. The other question to that is how long has the nest box been in the cage? If only recently added, they may still be getting used to the new addition.
