Hi, I have two budgies lola and olly and dont have any experiance with laying hens. lola laid her first egg a on Tuesday at around 1am. I can still see a bulge and im sure she is about to lay again, it looks like shes been straining and making small noises all day but still no egg, do i need to worry? could she be egg bound with her seccond egg? Thanks

If your hen seems to be having problems you do need a vet asap. An egg-bound hen can deteriorate very quickly. Are you trying to breed them?

She could be, it doesn't just happen with the first egg. If she is still struggling keep her very warm, popping a little olive oil on her vent could help her pass it until you can get her to the vet, hopefully this isn't the case and she will be ok.

Oil her up, as per skysmum's instructions as well. They should lay only every second day, sometimes a little shorter than the 48hrs, but not two only a few hours apart.
