First of all I would like to apologize for my bad English as it's not my first language.
Hey! 3 months ago, I found an injured cockatiel in my yard, so I took her in, looked for her owners, but never found them, I got her a HUGE cage (picture here, note that this was taken before I got her toys) prnt.sc/d9ot7p , the next day I got her toys and bought a pair of budgies to keep her company.
When I got my budgies, The female's cere was really light (picture here) prnt.sc/d9owgm , but eventually, it started getting darker (picture here) prnt.sc/d9oww8 , then even way more darker (pictures here) prnt.sc/d9os8s , prnt.sc/d9oxfh . My budgies are very affectionate towards each other, they keep kissing, feeding, and cleaning each other, however, they never got into the nesting box or tried to mate. I am excited about breeding my budgies and I would really like them to mate, so I got them another breeding box, but still no luck. I started putting my budgies' cages in my yard so that they will get more sunlight (it has an 8 feet fence and there aren't any predators here, I put the cage out at sunrise and then take it in afternoon), I also bought them egg food made for budgies, they started spending more time together but still no mating, and no, I don't interrupt my budgies, I watch them from a window which only I (or whoever is on the same side of the room) can see through, while they can't see me. I am kinda in rush since I don't want to miss this breeding season.
I don't think they are so lonely since they have the cockatiel with them, they also have canary friends (which they don't share a cage with), they also have "chats" with the ringneck parakeets that visit my yard, as well as pigeons and doves.
So what do you think? why aren't they breeding? is it because of the cockatiel? is there something I am doing wrong? is it something wrong with the breeding box? anything wrong with their diet? (I feed them pellets, seeds, and egg food, I try to feed them veggies and fruits but they never touch them)
