Hello I wondered if you could help, my 2 pairs bred in May this year and had quite a few eggs, out of 12 eggs we got 3 budgies, one hen destroyed all her eggs, and now all of a sudden, they have laid 7 eggs between them in two nest boxes, but to be honest I haven't noticed them mating off. Could they just be unfertile eggs? If they are unfertile why would the birds sit on them?
Can anyone help Thanks - Laura

Just because you haven't seen them mating doesn't mean they haven't mated when you weren't watching so you probably can look forward to some chicks.
The birds will still sit on the eggs even if they are infertile until they decide the eggs won't hatch.
You should be able see if the first ones that were laid are fertile by shining a strong torch on them.
