Is he moulting? Or is that how is feathers are naturally? Ok so she's definitely mounting...but the body feathers look very different to me anyway and I'm not too familiar with feather mutations..?. She's fully healthy & disease tested.

I am going to stick with my original opinion, colour-wise, but I have to agree that there is something different about her feathers; yes, she is a big boofy showgirl, but her feather health seems compromised somehow. As though she isn't producing enough preening oil, or possibly has not been given enough light to convert the oil to Vit D, not enough calcium uptake ........
I would be giving her a pick-me-up, something like a moulting aid, feather up or the like, as well as eggfood or fresh hard boiled egg, particularly if you are looking to breed from her in the future.

I just ordered some featheriffic for her and she's getting lots of light now and baths so I am hoping that they start to improve. Her cage did not have he best lighting where she was before unfortunately. I wasn't planning to breed her but you never know. I do miss having baby birds in the house.

Hezz is right, she is a grey green opaline spangle. White cheek patches are quite common on spangles. Her feathers do look a bit rough so she would probably benefit from a tonic.

You can also try Johnson's Moultine Tonic. You put 4 table spoons of water and 1 tea spoon of tonic. Mix them together and it gives them vitamins to help with their moult. Make sure if you do pick this though you shake well before use. I hope it goes well.

I'm not a fan of Johnsons products for birds. They don't seem to work. There are much better alternatives on the market made by companies who don't mass produce products across a wide range only specifically for birds. Too many fingers in too many pies.

Well that's your opinion I guess. It seems to be doing the job with my Reggie so. Not everyone agrees to the same things. But its okay for people to use it if they think it works. Just because you don't think it works for your budgies doesn't mean it isn't going to work for other people's budgies. Just saying.

If I might say something, those snuggle huts are a very bad idea for any bird. They can get their claws caught in the fabric, or worse chew on them and ingest fibres from them, which can lead to the death of the bird due to obstructions in the gut.

Hm I appreciate the concern. I will say this particular one belongs to out cockatiel who is 6 and has been using one since she graduated from incubator to cage. We inspect them frequently fortunately she's never chewed it or had any other issues.

Wing clipping? I've never heard of this in the UK therefore is this happening abroad? My little bird tamed up so quickly & past birds always have so I don't understand the reason for it. I don't think it's very nice for the bird at all. Poor thing

I don't think it's very nice for the bird at all. Poor thing We didn't clip her she was like that when she came to us. It's a pretty controversial topic in general. Some say it is for the safety of the bird so thy cannot escape and fly away and get lost. Others feel it is unhealthy, they are birds and meant to fly and clipping hinders cardio respiratory health etc. We always kept ours flighted. The feathers will eventually molt out and she will be able to fly again. Until then she's pretty severely clipped she kind of just falls.😞
