A first! Last week, 4 wild ring-necked parakeets flew by the window, circled & landed in the tree directly opposite! For years I have heard of many sightings of these birds in my area (South London/North Kent). I first saw them about 6 months ago in a park about 5 miles away. It was fascinating to see them from my lounge!

I'd read of Quaker parakeets living in feral groups in the UK, but I didn't think ringnecks would survive that far north. Of course, the time I took a holiday in the UK it was 30 degrees C at the end of September.

Beautiful birds. I'd have had a seat at the window and the binoculars out.

Hmm they're lovely birds but I thought they were becoming a bit of a pest in London. When we've visited our daughter in - now then - was it Richmond or Bushy Park? There were what seemed like hundreds of them and what a row! Or perhaps it's just us Northerners or exiled city now country types who find the noise rather deafening!

Lovely visitors to have, sweetpea. I wonder if they will call in on a regular basis? ??

They seem to be becoming more prolific. When I lived in Ramsgate (by the sea), South East Kent, just three years ago now, there were loads of them there. My what a noise they make, wouldn't appreciate too many of them in my back garden!! Needless to say they are very beautiful and I always used to rush to the window when they visited my bird feeder.

I think they are becoming a problem to our native birds. I think in time there will be a cull. Very sad as it's not their fault, man made problem again.
