Hi everyone, just wanted to ask what colour my hen is? She's constantly changing shades of blue in her main body area, except her head/tail/wings. As far as I can tell she's a normal blue series hen. I'll add a photo of her from a few weeks ago and now. She moulted about a month ago for the first time but her body colour is always inconsistent and changes daily. Today she even has a sky blue/Aqua lower belly, but it doesn't really show in pictures. Also, she is alright. I went away for four days (my mum looked after her while I was gone) to find that she'd plucked all her neck feathers. It turns out the treatment we'd been using for her scaly face was just meant to go on her beak and not on the back of her neck. It irritated her skin causing her to itch and pluck. I've washed her off and she's been a lot better, will be keeping a close eye on my bubba girl for the next few weeks until I know she's doing fine

She looks a normal cobalt to me.

I thought so, but even in the same light every day she changes shades of blue. Her rump is always a bit darker than the rest but her chest/main body changes between cobalt to skyblue a lot. It could be because she has white underneath the blue but she doesn't pluck the feathers on her body.
My other two yellow series (Dom pied and Dom pied spangle) never seem to change colour at all, other than my older one who has recently got a bit of tinge of grey after his first moult.
My mum agreed that she changes colour almost every day even in the same light and room. I think I might start taking daily pictures of her in the same spot and light, because it confuses me and I feel like I'm going crazy 😅

This is her today, she doesn't have the aqua on her lower belly now. I'm also glad to say she's stopped plucking herself and she's started on her road to recovery

I would be sure that she is not a sky blue; she is a cobalt. Please let her wings grow out.

I'm not trying to say that she's a sky blue, I do believe she is a cobalt too. I'm more asking why she keeps changing shades of blue in places
And I'm letting her wings grow out, I got her in August and that's when her wings were clipped. It's just taking her a while to regrow them, the other budgie I got a bit after has already regrown his.

I've been talking with a few local breeders and haven't come to the conclusion she's actually around 9 months old and is normal/recessive pied cinnamon wing (:
