Hi, I joined this wonderful world of budgies 12 months back. Till now I have been only interested in their health and nature. Now I am trying to understand their genetics too. So I thought it would be a nice idea to identify the color genetics of the budgies I own. Can someone please help me identify their genetics? Also any additional comment about their health and others is also welcome. Ice Rahul and Raj Simran Snowy Sou Thanks, Avik

Ice: skyblue, or possibly cobalt, opaline hen. Rahul: grey male Raj: cobalt male Simran: normal green hen Snowy: cinnamon cobalt hen ... ?? Sou: yellowfaced greywing cobalt male ..... that's a guess on my part. nev90? Please.

Thanks a lot Hezz for the help. One further question : I am planning to pair up either Raj + Simran and Rahul + Ice. Now both are aged above 18 months for sure. So do you think I need to wait a little more? How do they look in your opinion? And, what kind of mutations can I excpect from them? I know I am asking a lot of questions. But I think I will irritate you all with my questions rather than take a false step which can potentially harm my beauties!!!

Sorry, I can't answer your questions; my knowledge is not good enough, but hopefully nev90 will have a look and correct any of my mistakes above, and give you something to work on with outcomes, as well.

Your birds are all looking very healthy.
Ice: Opaline Sky Blue hen (could be sky violet) Rahul: Mauve male (the cheek patches show he is mauve not grey) Raj: Sky Blue male Simran: Light green hen Snowy: Cinnamon Sky blue hen Sou: Yellow face Sky blue greywing male (the yellow has spread making him look greenish)
If Raj & Simran are not split for anything all their chicks would be light green. However it is very unlikely that neither bird is split for another mutation so there are numerous possibilities. If Simran is split for blue you’d get light greens and sky blues. If Raj is split for a sex-linked mutation half the female chicks will show the mutation.
The same applies to Rahul & Simran except that the greens will be dark green and any blues will be cobalt.

Thanks nev90!! Seems I have to work on my sky blue/cobalt colouring. I did think Snowy might have been a sky blue, and wasn't really sure at all about Sou.

My mutation knowledge is only from what I have picked up on here, not having done any breeding, myself.
