Hey everybody!! I'm new here and happy to finally join this forum. I've had and loved budgies ever since I was 5 years old. I've been breeding cockatiels for a few years but just started breeding my budgies (finally started after years of research to prepare myself) alas no matter how much research it'll never prepare you for experience that you need. Every budgie is different in personal preference. Alkira prefers a plastic box with no litter. Pearl... Well, is pearl and wants to be difficult and tried to hog all the boxes so I reverted to put them in separate cages and now have a different problem. (I made a separate thread about her, all advice is welcome there) To get to the point with this thread lol, I was wondering if you'd all offer your words of wisdom in breeding these little angels. Pellet fed and I do give them egg food and they love it. All the fresh water they can ask for. Cage is big enough for them to fly a little bit. Box is 5 feet off the ground. Planning on handfeeding using a bent spoon using roudybush formula 3 starting at 3 weeks. Ready, go!

Don't know anything about breeding, but wanted to say welcome to the forum! Some members with breeding experience will be around soon.

thank you! They found my other thread about my problem, so I'm guessing they have no suggestions for this and I'm doing everything is fine. Just patience is the key lol

Do your birds get any fresh food at all? While budgies cannot be forced to breed, they can be encouraged - sunlight, longer days, set routines, and a partner they want to spend time with.

That's what the egg food is. It's freshly made everyday. Eggs, pellet, veggies, whole grains, and flax seed. I got the recipe off of a reputable website. www.cutelittlebirdiesaviary.com/egg-food--our-aviary-recipe-step-by-step.html
I also give them germinated seeds.
I made sure they picked their own partner and they were bonded before I separated them into pairs. I have an avian light bulb for necessary sunlight. And yes they have longer days and a specific schedule. I have a toddler, so I have to have a schedule.
No offense, and I don't mean to sound rude, but those are all the basics. (Yes the basics are essential and I know you're trying to help) I know what they need to stay healthy to have a successful and safe breeding to have healthy babies. The cockatiels needed that too. I plan to get the necessary supplements when the babies are weaning so they aren't stressed. I don't want them to get a yeast infection or slow crop. The cockatiels would get them under any kind of stress, they're quite fragile and take 1-2 months longer in development. I was wondering if any of you would have any type of words of wisdom that they don't tell you in "text books". For example is Carefresh paper bedding better than Pine shavings or do you prefer plain paper towels? I was thinking about putting paper bedding down and then putting paper towels over it for comfort and easier cleaning. What's the easiest type of food to start weaning with after they start picking at their feathers and the millet spray? With the cockatiels I used steamed veggies and germinated seeds to start with, but I know they are different so idk if you noticed any certain preference. Also, are there any common issues that you find, that I should know about? You know, tips that would be helpful, that's out of the ordinary.
