My little boy Ziggy suddenly died last night. He was perfectly fine all yesterday and was finally starting to warm up to my boyfriend and me.
We'd only had him just over 2 months, and he was only about eight months old. I have no idea what's happened. I'm at a loss. I wonder if it was to do with the oil bath he took a month or so back, but I would have thought it would have affected him sooner if that was the case.
My poor birdy. I hope you're flying high somewhere. I think having lost two of them three months apart has made me feel like I shouldn't keep budgies anymore, I'm obviously bad luck to them :-(

So sorry for your loss janeism. Is there anything you can think of that may have caused this? I know it's a silly question, but rusty cage bars, bells and toys, tassles on toys to choke on, that sort of thing? Not saying you didn't look after your budgie but some owners are not quite up to speed about some things that could harm their little pet. I really don't wish to offend, but it is unusual for a bird so young just to keel over. Budgies do hide illness very well, so he may have been unwell for a while. Don't let this loss put you off getting another birdie, they are wonderful little creatures that weedle their way into our hearts. You may have just been unlucky this time. Fly high Ziggy you will always be loved.

Thank you :-) no offence taken. His cage was brand new, as were the toys. Nothing I could see that he could choke on or anything like that. The way he went (looked like it wasn't in his sleep) makes me think he was poorly, but I couldn't tell if he was.
I've buried him in the garden with the trees and the flowers. Sleep tight little Ziggy

I'm sorry to hear that you have lost poor Ziggy. I know from personal experience that it is such a shock to lose one so young, maybe he had an underlying health issue. RIP Ziggy

I am so sorry, janeism. It is especially horrible when our little guys go just as they are just starting life, but unfortunately a few of us have been there. It is never easy, particularly as you were starting to bond. Rest in peace, little Ziggy; you will be missed. xx
