I wrapped the little one in tissue and found a little tablet box which I put it in then dug a hole by the aviary where others who have passed are buried. I've put bulbs on top as normal so each spring their graves flourish with flowers.
I feel so sad.
Agatha and Ralph are back in the aviary, I decided to let nature take its own course and I put the eggs in with them as they were when she incubated them. Looked before and one was on the floor smashed, the other had a hole in it, like it'd been pecked. There was yolk in them, I was expecting an embryo or something resembling one.
So there we are. Truly awful day.

There is no blame to be had. You did what you could. If left where it was, it was certainly going to come to a ghastly end. I am sorry that it didn't end better, clt80.

Be kind to yourself; it sounds like you need it. Think of all the happy birds you have given a good home to over the years. xx
