Hiya, My name is Gwyneth aka Squirrel.
My 11 year old son and I lost our "sprite the budgie" after only 1 n a half years of knowing him on new years day for reasons unknown to me We were both devastated at the loss of our bird so i decided to look for a new bird to fill our hearts with.
I wanted a young bird as sprite was a "free to good home" budgie, so I never knew how old he was or what kinda life he had before us and he was petrified of humans. (although i did manage to get him onto my finger and out of his cage after a few months!)
I found two, Gizmo, a one year old from a friends neighbor who is a breeder and Mumble a 16 week old baby from another breeder up here in the Edinburgh area. (My son and i chose a name each)
I am over the moon at the progress our wee boys are doing, got them both home on Monday (9th jan) and had Mumble on my finger the first day, (he is a feisty cheeky wee fellow) Gizmo is the complete opposite of Mumble and just sits there like a lead weight, a right wee chilled out chappy lol. Gizmo loves to be stroked and stands there no problem whereas Mumble has a wee fly about his cage then hops onto my finger.
I have been working with them and chatting to them constantly since they got here and yesterday they ate from my hand, came out their cage and was flying about my living room quite the thing.
It was brilliant to see and a great sense of achievement for me ;D.
I found this site by accident when surfing the net looking for "how to train a budgie" in google and soo chuft i did as i have got a lot of reassurance that i am doing the right things with our boys ;D
wow i am rambling hahaha
anyhoo i just wanna say its great to be here with all of you and hope to read/share lots more bird stories with you!!
