Hello! I have two adult budgies, male and female over a year old. They are in love with each other, they kiss, play, groom each other etc. I have a big cage for them, and few months ago i put inside nestng box. They love it, they both spend a lot of time inside, I ve seen them both sleeping inside few times.. Other then that, they have cuttlebone, mineral block, I give them egg food 2-3 times a week, they also eat a lot of veggies and fruits, they love apple, spinach, carrots and parsley, wich we grow ourselves.. But they are not mating. I bought him girlfriend, because i tought he would do that stuff, since he humped his toys all day long before her.. And even now when they are bonded, and in love, i would catch him making love to toys, while she is just sading on a branch looking at him .. Thats why I took almost all off the toys out lol.. Anyways, does anyone has any advice on is there anything I can do to maotivate them to have babies? (Btw I have everything needed, I have baby food, I know how to handfeed babies, just in case, and i have future home for them.) I just need your help, if anyone has had this type of problem?

Just remember this, one can take a horse to water, but, one cannot make it drink. So it is with budgies. If they want to mate, they will with or without your intervention. Are you certain they are male and female?

If you post a picture of them we can check that they are male and female.

Oh yes, they are male and female. Try upping the light levels and giving them longer hours of light.

You mean put some moody lighting around the cage. Maybe an erotic video on YouTube. Could it be that he doesn't know how?

Hahahah. Im telling you, he does! He was "loving" his toy bell, and every other toy basiclly, before her.. Btw, They are most of the time, especially now when its warmer, outside, on balcony(never on direct sun ofc).. It always cheers them up when they are there. So they have light as much as the sun is up, and few hours more from house.. Do they need more?

And yea about the erotic stuff.. There is a dove pair, that likes to chill on our airconditioner outside..(behind the windows..) You can see them mate pretty often, and just few days ago they brought baby here.. It is so adorable.. So basicly they have a living example of what they should do, right in front of them!!!
What else could they possibly need?!?

Moving them around too much will unsettle things, they should really be kept somewhere quite and in the same place. Too many distractions and disturbances wont help them im afraid

If you are moving them about all the time that could be the reason they aren't mating. They need to feel secure in one place to mate and lay eggs. I have a dove that I raised from a chick when it fell out of it's nest. He lives in my conservatory and comes out every evening and mates with my foot.

And starlingqueen has lots of little toes. Joking apart, maybe the doves and all the action is putting them off. As skysmum and starlingqueen suggest allow them some peace and quiet.

Are all hens capable of laying? Or males fertilising? It happens to humans etc. Just a thought
It may be they have mated with no results?

They havent mated, we watch them all the time, they never even tried. The thing is, They have been in quiet and in same place in the house, since end of winter. And nothing happend.. Now its nice weather outside, and they can stay there overnight. I can just see how much more they're active and happier as soon as I took them out. And they can sing and yell as much as they want to there. But i do clean them once, twice in two weeks.. And that takes a whole cage in bathroom and a lot of moving around, and cleaning branches. But I wouldnt do that if i knew something was going on.. (btw they cant see doves actually, jus from far distance.) And yeah I feel sorry to keep them in house all day, knowing they would have a lot of more fun outside now.. (If we could only make a deal xD )
