Thankyou jellybean for the very sensible breeder search suggestion in the thread on the introductions board. Will pursue it tomorrow. Looking at cages houses for the new feller. Like the looks of this one from Amazon. It's big enough to hold him plus a few friends but thinking of sticking with one, at least until he has a chance to train me. Read that human socialization is quicker that way. Sound strategy? Is there such a thing as too big? Would he likely object to his house being rolled around the apartment to accommodate drafts, cooking fumes or a better view of the TV?

This is similar to the cage I have for my two boys and they love it, a cage can never be too big. Just watch out for the bar spacing size, i think for budgies it is supposed to be no bigger than 1cm.

A bird's cage can never be too big! As JB has mentioned, just check that the bar spacing is no more than 12mm - half inch, if you are American.
Your feathered friend will more than likely appreciate having a change of scenery now and again. I move mine around all the time; into the main body of the house during the day, into a spare bedroom for sleeping, outside onto the deck for sunshine etc, etc.
Having one first up gives you a little lee-way for making bonding mistakes - he will be looking to his human family for companionship rather than having another feathered friend on tap.

I have that cage and love it, BUT see the four doors on the front? They slide up and down with just gravity to keep them closed. I had to secure all four as I have a bird who slides open the doors wishing to come and go as she pleases.
