Well i am looking for a new cage for the 7 boys, reason is jerry has started chewing on the bars and the covering is coming off so i need to act quite speedily, the one the have is a Marchioro delfi 102 which is a good size but no good if the buds can chip off the outer covering, i have looked but can't find one of similar size but hopefully better quality so any suggestions will be gratefully taken on board.

Hi thanks for the reply., i have looked at that cage and not sure with the bars being vertical, i had a smaller cage that had vertical bars and 2 of the buds (they use the bars alot to get around) had difficulty as their feet slid down the bars as they tried to get around,

They will use the vertical bars to slide down to the floor etc, on purpose. Even my disabled budgie is happy to use the bars in this way. Vertical bars are not a problem.

I can vouch for the longevity and quality of the paint of the Hamberely. It is the only coating that a persistent hen that I had could not liberate the paint. As Hezz says the buds have no difficulty using the bars. I think the bars give a bit more exercise to the feet. I went through a number of cages before finding this one.

Agree with Hezz, and OP, I also have the Hamberley cage, the birds love it, and the vertical bars are certainly not a hindrance.

Do any of your buds bite the bars with the intent of liberating the paint Jane? I don't mean just using the beak to climb with, I mean really intend to get the paint off?

Chirpy tried initially but he soon realised that his shredding toys and vegetables are much more fun to make a mess with . Squawk was never one to nibble the bars so no problem with him.

Edward would shred anything she could, that included perches, swings and cage bars. Shredding toys stood no chance of surviving more than a few seconds. I knew exactly what she was doing when I heard the bars pinging so I put wooden pegs on the bars where she sat. It was cheaper to replace the pegs the cage, yes she would shred the pegs. The Hamberley was a challenge for her as she couldn't actually get the paint off though there are the scars where she had tried. R.I.P Edward.
